Margaret Edson, a kindergarten teacher from Atlanta, Georgia, finds great success with her first play, which opens on Broadway at the end of 1999. Wit follows Vivian Bearing, an English professor who finds out she has terminal ovarian cancer. At first, she attacks her cancer in the same manner as her study of John Donne’s poetry, taking an aggressive, logical approach in her quest for answers.
