In this humorous tale, the boastful Irishman Sir Patrick O'Grandison recounts how he competed with a refined French dancing master for the attention of the widow Mrs. Tracle in London. Through comic misunderstandings, exaggerated manners, and playful rivalries between national stereotypes, the encounter escalates into an absurd situation that ultimately explains why the little Frenchman ends up with his arm in a sling.
