On October 16th, 2011, 20,000 race fans witnessed one of the stunning tragedies in motorsports history. A 15-car pile-up straight out of a horror movie claimed the life of a beloved champion and traumatized IndyCar racing forever. 13 years later, the scars have not healed, and the footage is as shocking and heartbreaking as it was the first time anyone saw it. But the story goes well beyond a racetrack. It goes back decades, to what IndyCar was, what it became, and the steps it has taken to ensure nothing like the Las Vegas tragedy ever happens again.
