Ukrainian Women's Prose: Unveiling Narratives, Imagery, and Societal Roles of Women offers a groundbreaking exploration of contemporary Ukrainian women's literature during one of the most transformative periods in the nation's history. This compelling scholarly work examines 25 pivotal years - from the fall of the Soviet Union through 2014, at the onset of Russia's military aggression in Western Ukraine, to 2016 - revealing how women writers have become the chroniclers of Ukraine's complex journey toward independence and identity. Through the voices of acclaimed authors including Oksana Zabuzhko, Tanja Maljartschuk, and Sofia Andrukhovych, this book unveils the rich tapestry of women's experiences as they navigate the reconstruction of both personal and national identity. Set against the backdrop of historic events - the Orange Revolution, Euromaidan and Russian military aggression - these literary works illuminate the profound social and political transformations that have shaped modern Ukraine. Drawing on innovative interdisciplinary approaches combining gender studies, postcolonial theory, and feminist literary criticism, this book presents a fresh "herstory" of Ukraine's first quarter-century of independence. It examines central themes of femininity, motherhood, and feminism while addressing the ongoing process of decolonization and identity formation in post-Soviet Ukraine, providing crucial insights into how women's prose has captured the essence of societal change and national awakening. In light of current geopolitical realities, this examination of Ukrainian women's literary contributions offers an invaluable foundation for understanding the cultural forces that continue to shape Ukraine's evolving identity.
