You can run from a place-but not from the shadows that live inside you.
After leaving the diocesan seminary of San Agustin, Mateo Aragon believes he has made the right choice. Nestled in the mountains of Santa Monica with the Missionaries of the Word, he hopes for peace, clarity, and a fresh start. But the ghosts of his past are relentless. Whispers of Fr. Alvarez and the lingering presence of Miss Lolita haunt him, reminding him that San Agustin's scars cannot be erased by distance alone.
His fragile calm is shattered during the grand Christmas celebration, when Fr. Alvarez and the diocesan choir suddenly appear in the seminary auditorium-bringing threats that make Mateo's burdens nearly unbearable. During a grueling 30-day retreat, Mateo bares his soul in confession, convinced that truth will finally free him. Instead, he is told to leave.
Just when all seems lost, Fr. Carlos offers Mateo an unexpected path: a contemplative life with the Trappist monks. For six months, Mateo immerses himself in silence, prayer, and labor, seeking refuge in simplicity. But even here, life tests him. A telegram arrives from San Agustin announcing his father's death. Returning home in anguish, Mateo discovers the message was false-and is embraced by a father very much alive, overjoyed at his return.
They Can See You is the fourth book of the Mateo Aragon Saga -a story of resilience, betrayal, and the unrelenting search for identity. It ends with Mateo reclaiming his path, returning to San Agustin to complete his Philosophy studies as class valedictorian, now poised to enter the Theology department with new strength.
