Maria has always wanted to be a mother. As the oldest child in a large family, she knows in her heart she will be happy when she has a family of her own. But when she becomes pregnant before she is ready to be a mother, and at a time when unwed mothers are not accepted or supported, she makes the difficult decision to allow her baby to be adopted by another family. Now she must learn to live without her baby, and through enduring love and tenacity, find ways to connect with her child over the years and ultimately, is given the chance to form a deep and lasting relationship with the baby she loved enough to let go.
