Every child who moves to Brindlewood receives a Welcome Doll. Carved from ancient wood. Meant to make you feel at home. Ellie Brooks never wanted one. But when her little brother Milo starts acting too perfect - sitting unnaturally still, never spilling a drop, smiling the same frozen smile - she knows something is terribly wrong. Because the dolls are watching. And they're changing the children. Deep in the woods behind town stands the Mother Tree - an ancient stump that remembers every tree cut down to build Brindlewood. Lonely and protective, it wants to keep the children safe... by making them quiet, still, and perfect forever. With help from Jonah Finch, whose sister vanished two years ago, Ellie must uncover the town's dark secret before Milo becomes the newest doll in the Mother Tree's collection. A cozy-spooky middle-grade mystery about family, friendship, and learning that being loved doesn't mean being kept. Perfect for fans of Coraline , Small Spaces , and Goosebumps . Just remember to wipe your feet. The moss is sleeping... but the Mother Tree is still listening.
