In "The Thin Match," Henry S. Whitehead weaves an intimate tale of an unlikely hero - a defective match born in a New Jersey factory. Born too thin, with a crooked head and a brown streak marring its side, this outcast match endures rejection from its perfectly-formed box mates as it passes from owner to owner. Through busy city streets and across oceans, the match's journey leads unexpectedly to a remote cabin in Labrador, where a desperate man faces a life-or-death situation in the bitter cold. With subtle tension and rich detail, Whitehead transforms an ordinary object into a character whose destiny hinges on a single moment of truth.
