It started with a gift. A wonderful gift. Something their people had never seen before. They called these aberrations on the dagger a sword and this one … became known as The Maris Sword. There was a beautiful flowering bush that covered several of the nations on Kili du Rele named the Maris .
The woman that Gimli loved was named for this flower. So, the sword and its sheath were festooned with carvings of the maris flower and vines and everyone wanted one.
There was only one Maris Sword and Gimli was determined that there would only be the one. But Gimli and her friends made other swords … more utilitarian swords. First for their own people and then … for others.
But not everyone was pleased with the swords. Not the swords themselves, but the fact that they had been developed and created by a bunch of girls.
They had survived multiple sabotage attacks of their workshop and equipment, one causing a death as well as other attempts on their lives. And they continued to make swords. See … they realized that they needed them more than ever now.
A serious threat to their lives forced Maris to flee and Gimli had her take the Maris Sword with her for protection … hers and the sword’s … while Gimli led a small force to dislodge the threat hoping that Maris could return when it was over. But it took a year to get rid of the invaders and by this time … Maris was nowhere to be found. She knew that people thought it was the sword she cared about, but it was easier to describe the heirloom than it was to describe Maris. She searched for ten years before she was forced to give up.
Returning to Mind Gimli continued to fight for her right to make swords knowing that if Maris lived she would approve and if she didn’t …
