It is the best possible news. The Spirit of God is present with ALL people. This book presents a new interpretation of the teachings of Jesus preserved in the Gospel of Thomas, the Quelle Document that served as a source document for the authors of the Gospels of Matthew and Luke, and some non-Quelle derived teachings also in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. The book focuses strictly on the teachings of Jesus as presented in these first and early second century gospels—not the divine redeemer/resurrection passages in the New Testament which for too long have obscured his teachings. More than 90 of his parables, wisdom sayings and acts fit together to provide a coherent picture of Jesus' teachings that he organized in the following three interrelated parts. The importance of the personal relationship with the Spirit of God Spiritual growth enabled by the Spirit of God Responding compassionately to all people in need and the Spirit of God suffering with them. Jesus' teachings rise far above morality and point to a deeper understanding of our beneficial relationship with the Spirit of God and the responsibilities that come with this most important of all relationships. Jesus' teachings concerning welcoming and serving ALL people suggest that the readily apparent "evils" such as homelessness, illness, hunger, pollution, and prejudice does not indicate the lack of a loving God. Instead, these "evils" demonstrates that we have more to do to respond to those in need. Overcoming "evils" in all its forms is a job assigned to each of us by the Spirit of God. Jesus' teachings deserve renewed attention especially now in a period of seemingly endless gun violence, extreme racial and LGBTQ prejudice, hunger, illness, and the mistreatment of immigrants. The consequences of a rapidly deteriorating climate will soon result in increased immigration from areas devastated by drought and flooding. The number of people affected by shortages of food and safe drinking water will increase. New diseases will emerge and spread rapidly. The poor will be affected first and most severely. Jesus' three-part teachings are now especially important and relevant.
