She built her life around silence. He’s the one sound she can’t tune out.
Two years ago, sound engineer Nora Callahan lost her fiancé. Since then, she has constructed a perfectly quiet life: a soundproofed apartment, meticulous routines, and a career spent behind a mixing console, helping other people’s music come alive while keeping her own heart on mute.
Then Eli Vasquez moves in next door.
A singer-songwriter with a gentle touch and a hauntingly unfinished song, Eli doesn’t just play his guitar. He thinks out loud through it. And through the thin wall between their apartments, Nora hears everything: the searching chords, the late-night breakthroughs, the sound of someone who isn’t afraid to be heard.
When a professional session brings them face to face in the studio, Nora’s carefully maintained distance begins to crack. Eli listens the way she does, fully, without judgment, and he sees the woman behind the engineer’s calm. But letting him in means risking the one thing she swore never to risk again.
