This is the unlikely story of a Union Soldier and a Confederate soldier and their interactions both during and after Little Round Top at the Battle of Gettysburg. How could William Mizell nearly kill Joshua Chamberlain, hero of Gettysburg, and thereby change the course of the war entirely, and yet also become so disillusioned with the Confederate cause that a Union deserter would become his best friend for the remainder of the war? While the potential reasons are there in hindsight, you'll have to draw your own conclusions based on the evidence. At the same time, you'll have to come to grips with the machine that was the Union Army and its own downsides in turning a desperate soldier into a deserter turned Confederate.
This is a story of a familiar locale to many Americans, with unfamiliar faces and an untold tale of desperation, friendship, and hope for a better life.
