In the countryside near San Miguel de Allende, an NGO called Feed the Hungry San Miguel provides meals to students in dozens of elementary schools, including one in the small community of Los Ricos de Abajo. In addition, a group of volunteer English teachers shows up in Los Ricos every Wednesday during the winter months to teach the kindergarten students, the elementary through high school students, and the adults.
