When your life is spent in perpetual fighting, what do you do when you realize it’s all been rigged? World War II has altered the future – due to the fallout from the atomic bombs, myths became real as citizens all over the world come into what can only be described as superpowers. After a period of chaos, with superpowered beings choosing sides and fighting for their version of good or evil, the Department of Unnatural Powers is formed. Working with all the governments of Earth, they find a way to solve most of society’s ills. Now superheroes and supervillains are paired off, fighting for or against “their” city under the watchful guidance of the Department. The fights are broadcast far and wide and, over the decades, end up replacing wars, sports, and most other entertainment, as the general public watches their favorites fight nightly. Naturally, some heroes and villains become world famous. Then there are those who can’t break out of their small-market viewership, content to repeat the same fights over and over. Dr. Peril’s great dream – to become a supervillainess – came true. She has a great lair, a loyal robotic henchman, and her archnemesis, Diamond. Together they fight over Evanston, Illinois. But something’s missing…if only she could remember what. Diamond became a superhero as a means to an end – to find out what happened to the woman she loved and lost. With her beloved cat she fights the good fight against Dr. Peril, wondering if today will be the day she can knock some sense into her nemesis. Will Dr. Peril and Diamond remain locked in an eternal struggle, televised every Tuesday? Or will one, or both, of them realize that there’s a lot more going on, and a lot more worth winning?
