The Pieces We Carry – The debut novel by A.E. Watson
Moving to Canada was supposed to be a fresh start for Adam Rhea. Then, he met Sophie Tuffner—the woman who consumed, controlled, and nearly destroyed him. Their relationship spiraled into obsession and fear, culminating in a tragic moment on a quiet Halifax Street.
Months after Sophie’s death, her sister, Lizzy Tuffner, arrives at Adam’s doorstep demanding answers. The world has already decided what happened—true crime specials dissect his every move, conspiracy theories flood social media, and hashtags fuel the narrative. But Lizzy doesn’t want headlines. She wants the truth.
As Adam is forced to relive the past he’s tried to bury, he struggles to move forward with Marnie—a woman carrying her own ghosts. But starting over isn’t easy when the past refuses to stay buried. With old wounds reopening and the weight of memory pressing in, Adam must finally confront the truth about Sophie, himself, and the pieces of the past that refuse to let go.
Set between the quiet harbors of Halifax and the relentless pulse of Toronto, The Pieces We Carry is a haunting, deeply human debut about obsession, survival, and the stories we tell ourselves to make sense of the wreckage.
