Seven years they were gone. They should have stayed lost.
When the prototype warship Chronos reappears after a seven-year silence, veteran Commander Kael is tasked with its retrieval—a mission critical to the losing war against the Null. But the Chronos is not empty. It is a tomb of impossible geometry and frozen terror, a vessel that actively resists his every step.
At its heart, within the sickly light of its temporal drive, an apex predator awaits. This is the Harvest protocol: a tactical loop designed by an unknowable enemy. The Null Alpha, a being of living shadow and blades, kills Kael with brutal efficiency. But death is not the end. Kael awakens back on his own ship, moments before the mission begins, the memory of his own death a phantom pain.
Each cycle, the nightmare resets but shifts, the enemy adapting to his foreknowledge. His crew sees only a madman, and the loops are beginning to fracture reality itself. Trapped in a cycle of death and rebirth, Kael must unravel the purpose of the Harvest before it consumes not only his sanity, but his entire crew.
A Note from the Author
The question that sparked The Ouroboros Event was simple: What if death wasn't the end, but the beginning of a lesson? What if the universe presented you with an impossible test, and the only way to study was to die, over and over again?
This is the reality for Commander Jax. He isn't just trapped in a time loop; he's enrolled in the cruelest school imaginable, where a monster is the professor and the curriculum is pure pain. This story is my attempt to fuse the adrenaline of a military sci-fi with the creeping dread of cosmic horror. It’s about the psychological price of resilience, and what a person becomes when their only path to victory is paved with their own corpse, countless times over.
Thank you for stepping onto the Chronos with him. Be careful where you walk.
