What makes a dog a character? In these affectionate sketches, Frances Slaughter studies the personalities of the dogs she has known - the diplomat, the professor, the artistic thief - with wit, warmth, and a keen eye. The One Dog and the Others is a study of canine character by Frances Slaughter (born 1851), gathering life histories and observations of individual dogs into a series of charming portraits. Illustrated by Augusta Guest and G. Vernon Stokes and from photographs, it is a gentle, humane celebration of the dog as companion and personality rather than a manual of breed or points. This edition features:
Affectionate character sketches of individual dogs
Life histories and observations in place of breed points
Illustrated by Augusta Guest and G. Vernon Stokes
