Rediscover the Faith That Once Filled Every Classroom in America.
Once upon a time in America, a child's first schoolbook was also a book of faith. The McGuffey Readers and their companions filled young minds with poetry that soared toward heaven and stories that showed ordinary men and women accomplishing extraordinary things because they were made in the image of a great and living God. These works were not considered unusual or controversial. They were simply considered good, true, and beautiful, and they shaped the character of a nation.
Today, those poems and stories have vanished from public education. Most children will never encounter them in a classroom. But that does not mean your children have to grow up without them. The Old Fashioned School Devotional is a carefully curated compendium of the devotional literature that once filled American schoolrooms, gathered together in a single volume for the Christian family. Whether you read it together at the breakfast table, use it as part of your morning devotions, or incorporate it into your daily lessons, this book will fill your home with words that glorify God and lift the human spirit.
Inside you will find poetry that stirs the soul and short readings that inspire courage, faith, and virtue. You will encounter a vision of mankind as God intended us to be seen: created in His image, capable of high and noble achievements, and accountable to a Creator whose glory shines through every page. This is not merely a book of old readings. It is a doorway back to a richer, deeper, more God-centered way of educating and forming the hearts of the next generation.
The Old Fashioned School Devotional contains 175 entries.
