A little monk discovers that everyone needs a holiday in this touching and humorous tale.
When the little monk hears a visitor describe the monastery as a prison, he feels surprised. He enjoys his life of prayerful reflection and can't imagine anyone finding it restrictive. He decides to ask the abbot about this puzzle, but instead of talking with the little monk, the abbot gives him the day off and money to spend in town. As he wanders and enjoys an ice cream cone, he realizes how freedom and responsibility are connected. In this volume of the heartwarming series, Zacharias Heyes explores the Benedictine philosophy around freedom and time for the self. Intertwined with quotes from the Rule of St. Benedict and sets of thoughtful questions and exercises, this story encourages us to appreciate structure as well as independence.
