The Covid vaccine developed in the UK by Oxford University and AstraZeneca can protect 70.4% of people from becoming ill and up to 90% if a lower first dose is used, results from the final trial show. The Oxford vaccine is the third to produce efficacy results, following Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna whose vaccines were made with a different technology. Their vaccine has some big advantages, because it is fridge-stable so easily transported and used anywhere in the world. It is also substantially cheaper, at about £3 a dose instead of more than £20 for the others. Importantly, Oxford/AstraZeneca have already shown that the vaccine works as well in older people as in younger groups and is safe. There are early indications it might also help stop transmission of the disease. So it is very important that the Covid vaccine is distributed in the world as soon as possible. It should also be noted, that the equitable distribution of coronavirus vaccines worldwide is very important; and that vaccines should be distributed to everyone, everywhere. Messages about vaccine equity are being promoted by Prince Harry - as well as many other cool guys, such as Ben Affleck, David Letterman, Gayle King, Jimmy Kimmel and Sean Penn. Also, President Biden said in a video address that the US was "working with leaders around the world to share more vaccines and boost production to make sure every country has the vaccines they need".
