In ancient times it was known that gods walked the Earth in disguise. People not only considered it wise to worship their gods but also knew that any strangers should be treated with respect as they might be a god travelling incognito. That wisdom is largely lost in the world of The Image of Christian.
Christian answered a "help wanted" ad on the Internet and got more than a job. According to her business card, his new boss is a consultant. When Christian asked her what kind of consultant she is, she answered:
"...I prefer not to label myself. People tell me their dreams; if I like them and believe in them, I encourage them to pursue their dream and introduce them to others who can assist. When they succeed, I get ten percent."
And what was his new job?
Your main task is to establish yourself as a public figure so you can go on to bigger things. That's a matter of image.
Then she left town and let Christian do what he felt needed to be done all on his own because that's the sort of boss she had always been.
The Image of Christian is a fable about fame, celebrity, and other illusions set in 1995, the year I started the first edition. The second edition, published in 2025, is similar. I cleaned up some details that had bothered me and did a proofread that caught a few errors I had missed before. That's it. Updating the novel to set it in 2025 would have made it a different book.
