A mystery has haunted Brownwood, Texas, since the Korean War. A grisly double murder and brutal butchering of two teenagers in 1952, a girl and a boy, occurred in an upper-floor bedroom of what is now an abandoned three-story Victorian mansion on a derelict ranch several miles south of town in an obscure valley. The shocking horror was committed by a deranged old woman who allegedly hid a large family treasure of some sort which has been sought by hunters and investigators for years. Seven rambunctious, 1960s fourth-grade children, including a scrappy little cowgirl with amorous intentions, led and organized by a daring—but-lovable.—red-headed and blue-eyed brat named Jimmy Jameson, plan and execute a reconnaissance mission and take it upon themselves one spring Saturday to explore the treasure mystery without their parents' knowledge.
