The Black women and nonbinary members of the writing collective Echoing Ida harness the power of media for social justice. With over five hundred articles published, their work amplifies the struggles and successes of contemporary freedom movements in America. Aiming to move the needle on the most pressing issues of our time, Echoing Ida nurtures a community of Black writers who-like their foremother Ida B. Wells-Barnett-believe the way to right wrongs is to turn the light of truth uponthem.\"In this anthology, the best of Echoing Ida's writing is collected for the first time; topics include state violence, reproductive justice, media and culture, trans visibility, and more. Featuring a foreword by Michelle Duster, activist and great-granddaughter of Ida B. Wells-Barnett, the essays imagine a gender-expansive and liberated future.\""Kemi Alabi is a Chicago-based writer, editor, and teaching artist. As editorial manager of Forward Together, they've helped lead Echoing Ida and its growing Truth Teller Network since 2014. They believe in narrative power and have worked with organizers in housing rights, the movement for Black lives, and queer and trans justice to strategically communicate towards liberation. A poetry reader for Muzzle Magazine, Kemi's work appears in The BreakBeat Poets Vol. 2: Black Girl Magic, The Guardian, Catapult, The Toast, TEDx and elsewhere. Cynthia R. Greenlee is a writer, editor, and historian of the African-American experience. She is a former senior editor at Rewire. News. She is an active part of the Echoing Ida program as a member. Cynthia has worked in communications capacities for various international health organizations, including Ipas and FHI 360, as well as editorial positions at various print and online media. Based in North Carolina, she is a self-described country cosmopolitan\" and strives to cross professional boundaries by blending academic and popular writing (and blurring the boundaries between these supposedly distinct audiences). She earned her PhD in history from Duke University in 2014 after completing a dissertation about Black girls and the law, and she also holds a master's degree in journalism and mass communication. Janna A. Zinzi is a communications strategist, writer and performer. She has worked with Forward Together since 2013 in a variety of roles including media strategy and digital organizing. She worked closely with Echoing Ida supporting the writers in developing pitches and messaging, attending and presenting at industry conferences, along with connecting Idas with editors and outlets. She got her start working in Hip-Hop public relations as online journalism was starting to become a booming industry. Before working at Forward Together, she has supported media and communications work for various reproductive justice and social justice organizations around the country. In her spare time, you can find Janna on the dance floor performing in or producing burlesque shows, or writing about travel, arts and spirituality. \""34.59 | The Echoing Ida Collection, Paperback | Indigo Chapters
