This is the fourth of the Sugar Creek and Vaughnsville High School ebooks. It is a part of the second paperback in the Sugar Creek Series, and depicts the years of 1937 to 1942 in Sugar Creek Township of Putnam County in Ohio. This northern part of Sugar Creek Township had stayed in Putnam County, while the southern half of the township was made a part of the newer Allen County. Welsh heritage in the Vaughnsville community was instrumental in great family support for music in the school. Because of this interest the school day was extended so that students could have music every day. First period was the band period which also included the junior high students. Those students who were not of Welsh heritage also became excellent musicians carrying their musical interests throughout a lifetime. Two days a week girls and boys were separated for vocal music last period of the day and on Friday nearly every student in the high school was practicing vocal music in the music room. The Sugar Creek Community has produced many excellent musicians including Bob's Melody Boys who sang on WOWO Ft Wayne in the 20's, the Thomas Brothers who were heard nationwide on Major Bowes Talent Show in the 30's, the Vaughnsville 49ers of the 50's, and many other groups and individuals who were in Barbershop Quartets and soloists. Owen Tudor and Bob Evans and probably many more have turned down offers to be professional musicians. It is sure that not one can say that music has not brought brightness and wonderful feeling into their lives. That heritage has become ingrained in Sugar Creek Township in those with Welsh heritage and those without Welsh heritage. It can be seen in the local students who now attend other high schools.
