A journey set in motion centuries ago, by the women who made history in their own eccentric and life-altering ways. Though left unrecognised, their names omitted from the walls of fame, their blood runs through our veins – and through the veins of the author. These unsung heroines skilfully found ways to educate those around them, in spite of never having any form of education themselves. From their guidance, their patience and their experiences, author Phumla Majola's own mother was given a chance to learn and through their lessons pass on valuable knowledge. It is the author's hope that she too can grab hold of these teachings, and go on to share them with her own children one day, who will then pass them on to their offspring – creating in the process an unbreakable chain of warriors who teach fearlessly, through unconditional love, respect, and active action. This book is the tale of Phumla's childhood, and it highlights the astonishing and beautiful ways her life has been moulded by the team of people she considers "Heroes" – those who assisted in her own learning, and in the shaping of her own true character. Phumla Majola was born in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. She is pursuing her career in the human sciences behavioural psychology field, working in assisting and empowering children with special needs. Phumla started on this book, which is her first, as a literary memorial to her grandparents, who supported her single mother in raising Phumla and Phumla's older sister. This book gives thanks to them and to her mother for raising her and influencing her views on life, living and love. This book is a testament of bravery, suffering, and survival. It is a journey of self-discovery and an acknowledgement of the importance of origins and the essential beauty found in recognising and praising the real heroes in our waking lives.
