Written as a reflective fireside chat, this text explores an author's unsettling retrospection regarding a former friend who possessed an eerie, intimate knowledge of serial killers. The narrative centers on two chilling anecdotes: a claimed encounter with the Doodler—where the friend was allegedly sketched but spared—and a bizarre, intuitive sighting of the Zodiac Killer at a foggy intersection. By revisiting these memories, the narrator examines the distinction between truth and performance, wondering if their friend was a dangerous predator, a liar, or simply a hunter. Ultimately, the piece serves as a psychological study on the uncertainty of memory and the lingering unease that comes from realizing one may have never truly known a close companion.
