Julie grew up surrounded by animals-mostly stuffed-treating beloved family pets as siblings. Not much changed as she aged, although she no longer rescues stuffed animals from garage sales. Dogs and cats helped Julie transition from one milestone to the next: puberty, marriage, motherhood. Animals wove themselves into much of Julie's existence in the most surprising ways. In this funny and compelling memoir, Julie's life story unfolds through her love of animals and how animals played key roles in significant life events. Something deeper is revealed about us within our connection to creatures, both wild and tame, real and fictional. Julie's experiences show us how animals can shape our perspective, give us the gift of empathy, and provide much needed comfort when no one else can.
