1768, the Satchwell and Bromwich Iron Foundry . . . Beneath a pounding tilt hammer, an implement is forged by an apprentice from a white-hot billet of steel. Thus begins a 250-year history. The implement is a spade. It is passed down generations of men and women, and is witness to events as significant as the forging of nations, and as intense as tilling the soil for survival. A powerfully told story of people over the ages, their triumphs and their tragedies, their loves and jealousies. A thrilling journey, illuminated by the triumph of the human spirit over adversity.
