Leaving employment may bring long-awaited freedom from deadlines, demands, and routines. It can also remove structure, daily contact, responsibility, recognition, and a familiar answer to the question of who you are. Retirement Without a Role examines the disorientation that can appear when the position ends before a satisfying way of inhabiting the next season has taken shape. William R. Stanek helps you approach retirement as a transition rather than an endless vacation or an immediate reinvention project. You will explore new weekly anchors for connection, contribution, and curiosity while accounting for finances, health, caregiving, and changing capacity. The next chapter does not need to reproduce the intensity of the previous one. It does need enough shape to support a life that is more than the absence of a job.
