"This work is a practical guide for parents and those planning on starting a family soon. If you are looking to learn how to rear your child in the public school system, this book will serve you well. Parents are given great advice for exerting the power they possess and students are given checklists to gauge their progress as they strive to unleash their innate genius. Yennenga has put her best foot forward sharing great tips from a former public school educator's perspective. The things that most parents don't know, or have felt they were not "allowed" to challenge, are the very things she walks them through. Parents will not only regain their confidence but will also be challenged to sharpen some of the very skills they need to develop in their children." - Afia Raina Turner "As you explore this work I have compiled for your child's success inside and out of the classroom, I encourage you to reflect on this quote from Dr. Asa G. Hilliard, III (Nana Baffour), an ancestor who I hold near and dear to my heart and who resides in my spirit. "In our (Afrikan) worldview, our children are seen as divine gifts of our creator. Our children, their families, and the social and physical environment must be nurtured together. They must be nurtured in a way that is appropriate for a spiritual people, whose aim is to 'build for eternity'." -Yennenga Adanya About the Author: Yennenga Adanya, parent, educator, teacher trainer, program developer, and curriculum writer, is a nine-year veteran in the field of education and community advocacy working primarily with predominantly black populations. Yennenga has served as both a teacher and instructional specialist for public schools in Atlanta, GA for years. Witnessing the mis-education of Afrikan children first hand, she realized her purpose surpassed serving youth in the classroom. If she was going to be successful at teaching, she realized she would have to empower and engage everyone involved in the students' lives. Following the call beyond the classroom, Yennenga eventually resigned and successfully started her own educational support service; offering tutoring services, Cultural-centered home and Saturday schooling, adult-education classes, parent and community advocacy lectures, and program/professional development services to urban schools and organizations around the nation. She adopted the motto, "Each one, Teach One" under the premise "We do the best we can until we know better, then when we know better we do better. Yennenga Adanya began and still holds regular community workshops at her Atlanta area office covering topics spanning from The MisEducation of Our Babies to "Unleashing the Genius: How to Survive and Thrive in Today's Public School".
