To paraphrase Toni Morrison: If there's a folk tale you want to read but it hasn't been written yet, you must write it. In Queer as Folk Tales, James Penha has done exactly that—he has gathered ancient myths and legends and reimagined them with queer lovers at their heart, the stories he, like so many LGBTQ2+ readers, has longed for.
In these tales…
A gay boy steps into a photograph to find happiness.
A dying man can rest only after seeking forgiveness from the trans celebrity he once denied.
A woman surrenders to passion in the arms of a ghostly, lesbian wraith.
Two gay fishermen fall afoul of a dragon.
A Chinese student searches for the legendary god of queers.
And a Norse god embraces his pansexuality when he falls for a giant.
In these tales we ask…
Can queer desire bloom with a ghost?
Which sleeping hunk will the prince decide needs his kiss?
Can a poet save the beautiful young ginger trapped in a fox's body?
Who are the queer heroes still remembered after thousands of years?
