The demand for emergency department care has steadily increased, while overcrowding causes long wait times, dissatisfied patients, stress, and compromised care. This study by Dr. Eric Williams analyzes the current state of ER overcrowding in Detroit, Michigan, and draws correlations between the overcrowding, patient wait times, access to primary health care services within Detroit's public hospitals, and how overcrowding affects the health outcomes of patients who must wait over six hours to receive care.
