"Growing up, I heard about the horrible living conditions of poor farm residents and imagined the farms to be haunted places. Then, in 1996, while parading house to house on windy, moonlit All-Hallows' Eve with my neighborhood gang, an unusual visitation made my childhood imagination come true and left me with this rhythmic ghost story." We are in the groove, our pace set -- the honor of who rings the bell decided -- when the beat of something approaching grabs our attention and disrupts our Halloween pursuit... With a mysterious and suspenseful arc that concludes with a satisfying moment of curiosity, the book's tone transforms Halloween story time into spooky, page-turning fun. Historical back matter about poor farms gives POOR FARM MEADOW rare, educational value on the October reading list! POOR FARM MEADOW appeals to readers looking for picture books with: * Strong atmospheric imagery ("shrouded in mist...") * Suspenseful pacing * Kid-friendly characters ("a boat, a lion, a witch, a clown, a Dalmatian, and a tube of ...") * Mysterious rural settings
