In "The Silver Box," Galsworthy contrasts the treatment of the wealthy and the poor within the justice system. The play centers around the theft of a silver box by a struggling young man and the very different repercussions he faces compared to the wealthy, privileged characters, illustrating systemic biases and social inequality. This was one of Galsworthy’s first works to highlight how economic and class disparities impact the lives of individuals under the law."Joy" examines personal freedom within a family structure, following a young woman’s yearning for independence against her family's expectations. Through Joy’s journey, Galsworthy explores the tensions between personal happiness and familial duty, symbolizing the broader constraints society imposes, particularly on women’s lives and choices.
