Pain and shame eat away at me, like maggots consume rotten flesh…
I mourn the girl I once was. Happiness no longer exists, and my life is in a downward spiral, filled with bad memories and regrets.
All because of one summer.
I slap a smile on my face and fake my way through each day, hoping life will be better, but when my mother falls into a coma, leaving my brother and I to fend for ourselves, I believe all hope is lost.
Then Eryc, my childhood best friend, forces his way back into my life, depression be damned.
When I needed him most, he was there, but will the traumas of my past and our uncertain futures leave us far more broken than we were before… or will love bind all the pieces back together, creating a life worth living?
