"Oliver Twist" is one of the most famous novels by the English writer Charles Dickens, still read and discussed today. The novel tells the story of Oliver Twist, an orphan raised in a workhouse where mercy is replaced by cold calculation. After escaping to London, the boy falls in with street thieves and becomes embroiled in a dangerous underworld. Along the way, Oliver meets those willing to help him, but his past, the secrets of his origin, and people like Bill Sikes repeatedly drag him into trouble. The novel can hardly be considered social commentary: it emphasizes the contrasts between kindness and cruelty, compassion and self-interest, and questions whether humanity can be preserved in a place where it is systematically taken away. Today, "Oliver Twist" is considered a classic text about Victorian England. We invite you to immerse yourself in this story by reading the novel in its original language, without adaptations or abridgements.
