A missing mum. An ancient crystal. A magical voice waiting to be discovered.
When Nubian the Mermaid is reunited with her long-lost mother, she learns of a powerful crystal hidden deep beneath the ocean. Together with Adaeze the tortoise, they must stop the Evil Grannies before they find it first. As the adventure unfolds, Nubian discovers a magical gift she never knew she had and learns that courage, kindness and self-belief can light up even the darkest waters. A heartwarming tale of family, friendship and finding the power within yourself.
About the Author
Nubian Andrade E. is a joyful and highly creative 7-year-old author and illustrator currently in Year 3. Born to a Cape Verdean mother from Portugal and a Nigerian father, Nubian proudly embraces her rich African heritage and multicultural background.
From a very young age, Nubian has loved drawing, storytelling, fashion, and expressing her imagination through creativity. She is also passionate about swimming and enjoys bringing ideas to life through art and design. Known for her bright personality and confidence, Nubian loves connecting with people and sharing her creative world with others.
'Nubian the Mermaid' is Nubian's very first book, fully written and illustrated by herself. Through her story, she celebrates Black representation, with all of the characters beautifully created as Black characters, reflecting culture, identity, and diversity. Nubian also created her own African-inspired character name, Kwila (K-W-I-L-A), showcasing her originality and imagination.
With a big heart and even bigger dreams, Nubian hopes her stories inspire children to feel proud of who they are and to believe in the power of their creativity.
