Night Wonders is the first book in the Night Rhapsodies Poetry, Prose & Song collection. It is an evocative rendering of poetic selections that present the universal feeling of wanting to belong to the natural wonders of our existence. Using serious drama and play, the work begins with exploring our connection to the universe and progresses to various aspect of our relationship to nature, faith, and our quests for exploring life. It also chronicles years of in-depth reflections and poetic musings as the writer captures her Northern sojourn of experiences juxtaposed with memories of her Southern roots. The reader is taken on a transformative journey as each layer of the poet's imagination reveal our spiritual connection not only to nature but to each other. "We have no choice," writes Phyllis R. Gooden on witnessing the mystery of night and nature and the imagination in her Night Wonders. Like Robert Frost, she is "one acquainted with the night," John Bradley, author of Terrestrial Music. "Dr. Phyllis R. Gooden's poems in Night Wonders are sure to resonate with anyone who has wrestled with issues related to identity and place in both personal and broader terms. This volume is an ideal text for introducing students to not only the notion of wonder itself but the wonders of poetry as well," Dr. Abbey Zink, Dean of Arts and Sciences and Professor, Sam Houston University.
