This book gives the basic information required for making experiments in neutron or x-ray scattering or spectroscopy. The short chapters are written by experts in the field and can be read independently. The book may also be used as the basis for a lecture on neutron and x-ray defraction. This volume will befollowed by two more dealing with applications to solid state physics and chemistry as well as to biology and soft-matter physics.
