MY SILENT LIFE This is a story about my life as a chronic stutterer unable to speak freely. Years of being held back from expressing and sharing thoughts, ideas or even the simplest words. It's the story of the silent world I closed myself off in for years, and the embarrassment, emotional stress as well as damage to my self-confidence caused by this speech impediment. There are no medical studies behind what I write in this book. I have seen many speech therapists and spent loads of money to learn their techniques for fluency. I don't feel I should include nor promote any of those techniques because they did not work for me; someone else has already written several of those books. I only know what helped me and hope it will work for you, or the stutterer in your life. I've tried everything and paid those who claimed they could help. What eventually helped the most I learned by living with stuttering for over 30 years. Confronting the struggles I faced as a stutterer would be so much easier, knowing what I know now. I finally made it to the finish line of this torment called stuttering. If you are a stutterer you will agree it is a constant nightmare to live with day in, day out. If you don't have a speech impediment, but know someone who does, I hope it will help you become aware of the daily role that misery and frustration plays in every single day of a stutterer's life. Perhaps someday the laughter in the schools will stop and people shall see this problem with more compassion and less derision. I never planned on writing a book. However, I woke up one morning in November of 2013 with three words running through my mind over and over again: My Silent Life. It later occurred to me that this was the title for my story; the story of the ins and outs of getting by with a major speech impediment in this rushed, 100 mph world. I have many stories to tell, but in this book they I narrowed them down to the stories that led me to the light at the end of this dark tunnel of being silenced. What it feels like being caught in the silence severe stuttering can cause. How simply talking is often a taken for granted skill and strength. Adam Dayton Gibson 2/3/2015
