For Ruth Guthrie, the news of her birth mother's death begins a series of events that will change her life forever, leading her on a life-changing exploration. Venturing on her own to New York City to identify her mother's body, what she discovers in the days following finally reveal the answers to the questions that she had been looking for her entire life. Why had her mother turned to alcohol after she was born? Why had she left her on the doorstep of an orphanage at the age of eight and disappeared from her life? And the biggest questions of all, why had she never talked about Ruth's father? Who was he? What was she hiding? Over the course of the next several days, Ruth will make new friends, meet a handsome New York City police officer, and finally reveal the truth about her father. What she finds out will leave her questioning everything she has ever known, everything she has always dreamt of, and nothing she could have ever imagined.
