Coles Mudfog and Other Sketches: Restored Classics to Go Edition at Village Green Shopping Centre in Vernon, BC

This collection bursts with comic sketches that turn public life, social ambition, and human vanity into a lively parade of absurdity. From Mr. Tulrumble's pompous career to the ridiculous proceedings of the Mudfog Association, it skewers institutions, scientific pretension, and earnest nonsense with sharp wit and playful invention. Farce and satire drive scenes of brass-armored Ned Twigger trapped before a jeering crowd, a mock meeting that "proves" children's moral failings with absurd statistics, and outlandish schemes such as portable railways, financial machines, and perilous fire-escapes. Elsewhere, Parliament becomes a grand pantomime of clowns and trick performers, while a dinner party for a supposed lion reveals a fashionable celebrity culture built on admiration and performance. At the Green Dragon, pub politics, bogus authority, and outrageous collateral—wigs, a dead bear, and literary relics—fuel comic debate. Throughout, the book delights in exposing folly, making everyday life seem both ridiculous and strangely familiar. This edition has been fully restored with modern typesetting, custom cover design.
