Jordan Catala of Sévérac (also known as Jordanus), a Dominican missionary and explorer of Asia, flourished in the early fourteenth century. His sole extant work is “Mirabilia descripta” (The Wonders of the East) which describes his varied travels, especially narrating the many ‘marvels’ he encountered in India. It provides the most precise and reliable account of Indian regions, climate, customs, fauna and flora reported by any European in the Middle Ages. It is in fact judged to be superior even to Marco Polo’s account of travels written a few decades before. Delphi’s Medieval Library provides eReaders with rare and precious works of the Middle Ages, with noted English translations and the original texts. This eBook presents Jordan’s “Mirabilia descripta”, with illustrations, informative introductions and the usual Delphi bonus material. (Version 1) * Beautifully illustrated with images relating to Jordan’s life and works * Features the complete extant text of “Mirabilia descripta”, in both English translation and the original Latin * Concise introduction to the author and his work * Henry Yule’s 1863 translation, with the original hyperlinked footnotes * Excellent formatting of the texts * Easily locate the sections you want to read with individual contents tables * Features a bonus biography CONTENTS: The Translation Mirabilia descripta The Original Text Contents of the Latin Text Brief Biography Jordanus (1911) by Charles Raymond Beazley
