S., 1607; Establishing the Title of England to the Continent Anno 1607. Ogilby says, that a hundred men were sent to settle a colony at Sagadahoc, under the command of George Popham, who seated themselves in a Peninsula at the mouth of this River.8 Prince is explicit, saying that these colonists settle on a westerly peninsula at the mouth of Sagadahoc. 9 Belknap is confirmatory: They landed at the mouth of Sagadahock or Ken nebeck River, on a peninsula. 10 Holmes, to the same purport, has been quoted above by Williamson. In the year 1807, two hundred years after the settle ment, the Rev. Dr. Jenks, then a resident of Bath, with a party of friends.
