Vihaan, ruminating over the concept of happiness, starts the story. He talks to himself about it and feels humiliated in front of the walls since he thinks they too have ears. His father, Sandeep Goswami, was a police officer who perished in an accident; he lives in Sonaville with his brother Samarth and mother Saumya. He develops feelings for a flute player called Anvi Dutta as he begins his new school in 11th grade. Anvi performs her self-composed music and tells stories about their family members while Vihaan lies to her that his father is still alive, as he thinks his death is unusual, so he chooses to clear it later. They both spend time playing the flute.
To surprise her, Vihaan proposes to her straightforwardly and writes a poem on her ideas. He asks his friend Arhan whether he can read a fading letter he discovers in his father's trunk one day, as he cannot read it. He rides with his old friend Shubhman, whose father was a constable at Vihaan's father's police station, during their summer holiday. One day, Anvi texts him to meet; when they get there, she informs him that she is scared since a man tried to follow her down the street. Anvi starts to argue with him later for lying about his father, as she knew his father had passed away. Their argument drives them to distance one another.
Then, one day, his mother receives a thyroid cancer diagnosis, which changes his life and guides his development. He shows up for his test; his mother is finally diagnosed and starts to recover gradually. He finds out early on his results day that Anvi and her family perished in a fire disaster. He then descends into depression for over a year. When his mother gets well, he starts his new university. A thief snatches his phone one day as he is heading to the market; he chases him, and the crook dies from the rocky terrain. Though he was a burglar, Vihaan's father is a well-known individual who says Vihaan spent six years behind bars. He also heals himself psychologically and physically in jail over six years, where he meets former drug smuggler Bhishan, who has turned himself into a real person and intends to build a drug rehabilitation centre after his release. They pick new chords and play guitar in jail.
Six years in prison later, he is released and settles into his beautiful house in Ragasagar, constructed by his brother Samarth, a well-known businessman now. He starts touring to further his musical career, and one day he runs across Nishtha, a vocalist living with her aunt. They start working together during shows, finally developing a close friendship. One day, Vihaan visits her house and hears the same flute music Anvi performed before Nishtha; when he confronts Nishtha about it, she finally reveals herself as Anvi, who changed her face following the fire catastrophe.
But Sandeep contacted Roshni, who drove him to the hospital before he passed away, and told her the whole story in the car. Vihaan also discovers that they set fire to Anvi's house when she tried to covertly investigate their internet smuggling; Roshni was alerted and ultimately saved her. He also learns that Vikram Benjamin, Dhruv's son, who tried to retrieve his phone to wipe the fading message found in the trunk, perished as well. He finds the letter has been taken when he attempts to gather the hard copy from his previous abode. He tells his mother and brother everything about this. Furthermore, seeking retribution against the Benjamin family are Samarth, Anvi, Roshni, and others.
Vihaan and Anvi find Arhan’s ex-girlfriend Queen when they all visit Dhruv's house from a distance; she is Dhruv's daughter and once Arhaan's girlfriend. They feel that Arhaan told them about the faded word letter and its presence on Vihaan's phone and understand he is connected with him. They start searching for Arhaan by scolding him from his house. Arhaan then claims to have been blackmailed and to be now working against the Benjamin family. According to him, Queen and her new boyfriend still run the drug facility and oversee it. Together, they create a plan. Vihaan asks Bhishan, the friend he met in jail, about his past connection with the drug dealers; he responds that he still gets along well with the dealer of Queen but that he desires the dealer to be destroyed for the sake of the young generation.
They then pick a lethal snake, put it in a nice box, and set a surveillance camera within. They want Bhishan to present it to the merchant. He accomplishes this, and they record unprocessed video of the drug dealer where Vihaan finds the pilfered old trunk. They so want to steal it at night by cutting off the generator and electricity and by diverting the security with an accident outside. Accordingly, they replace the letter with a copy and can therefore restore it. When they closely read the sentences, they found the whole story presented just as Roshni had informed Vihaan earlier. They came across two enigmatic words: "Banyan Pep". They believe they might get some evidence from a banyan tree, and close to Sandeep's death they discover a banyan tree merged with a pepal tree and find a pen drive containing a video of Dhruv making a phone call to someone planning to kill Sandeep.
They register a complaint with the authorities and choose a lawyer. Later on, they find the lawyer has joined with Dhruv, and hence Vihaan uploads the video of Dhruv online. He is taken under police custody for interrogation. He grabs the police officer's firearm and murders himself when the media makes it the most often occurring headline in town. His daughter was taken recently, and cops grabbed the drug dealer. After a few months, Vihaan and Anvi are marries; two years later they start their own music academy. Then we find out that Vihaan telling his child the whole story. Anvi calls Vihaan as his friend Shubhman comes. Vihaan leaves the story, and his child wonders who stole the trunk box. Vihaan answers that even the walls have ears.
