On the cover was a pant leg of a woman, hands on a broom sweeping up a pile of dead leaves. I hope this note finds you, I just read The Last Dead Soldier Left Alive and felt compelled to try and contact you. Yeah...30 years. You are an incredible writer, the rhythm, your breath; your heartbeat is in every line. I want to tell you how much reading your book meant to me, helping me understand what I couldn't 30 years ago. Thank you, Jess If you are willing I would like to talk with you. She left a phone number. Actually I didn't know how long it had been. 30 years, wow! What would I do? "They don't make writers much more naked than R. Boes, or books more uncompromising than Last Train Out. This is a thorough guided tour of one man's soul, with all the passion and blood on full display." Luc Sante
