You know her name, but you'll never know her secrets.
The glitz and gritty glamour of 1970s New York City hide a much more sinister reality for the women who live there, but Ginger Daughtry and her two beloved roommates refuse to be victims. They are living the dream, embracing all the city has to offer—dancing under the glow of the disco ball, discovering themselves and what they want out of life—until one of them is assaulted. When the cops do nothing, they take matters into their own hands, and Lady X is born. What starts as a little vandalism soon escalates to something far more dangerous. After a body is found fallen—or pushed—from five stories high, all eyes are on Lady X. But she’s vanished into thin air.
In modern day Los Angeles, Margot Cooper wants nothing more than to run away from the world—and the paparazzi—after it’s very publicly revealed that her actor husband has betrayed her. While hiding in her childhood home with her sister and teenage daughter, she discovers a box full of old clippings in the attic all about Lady X, a mysterious vigilante who exposed and vandalized terrible men throughout New York City in the summer of 1977, including a blurry newspaper photo that stops her in her tracks.
Suddenly the consequences of the past race to meet Margot as she contends with her own future in this powerful and propulsive novel.
