Shortly after the Falklands conflict Gus Meredith is put out to graze by the RAF. Due to an injury sustained whilst flying Meredith's commanding officer considered it no longer appropriate for Meredith to be on active service and grounded him. Meredith missed the snugness of the Tornado cockpit, the sleek lines of a jet fighter wrapped around him, the noise of speed cutting through the wings.
