Phoebe, a young woman who lives in the village of Garnham, had a father who was a famous cellist. She has inherited his beloved cello. A wealthy young woman named Zephyr wants to buy the cello, but Phoebe refuses to sell it. Zephyr becomes obsessed with getting the cello. Jo and her friends Marie, Frieda, and Simone rent a house in Garnham for the summer with their families. They befriend Phoebe and vow to protect the cello. There are attempts to steal the cello and hurt Jo's dog Rufus.
