And now, I have no doubt, many of my German readers will expect of me a very Da guerreotype of the amiable, cheerful, intelligent and witty authoress and a precise description 0 the little corner by t e window of her pretty libra ry, her usual sitting-room, and of the little wri ting-table, and of all the comfortable and a ree able dependencies of the place where the oral Tales, the qular Tales, Belinda, Leonora, Griselda, Castle Bach-mt, Helen, and all her other delightful narratives, were imagined and put to paper. All this, I can easily believe, might be made extremely interesting; but I feel so invin cible an aversion against speaking in my books of living persons who have hospitably received me under their roofs, that I shall persist in my old practice, and shall merely invite my readers to accompany me in my walks about Edge worthtown, where they will find much that is characteristic of the country and i's inhabitants, things with which I occupy myself at all times more willingly than with mere personalities.
